Behind the Lens: Kendra
” OH MY GOD – I’m so sorry! I can’t believe that just happened. ”
– pretty much every mother who has ever witnessed their newborn pee on Kendra
It takes a special kind of person to wrangle babies and children the way that Kendra does. It’s not that kids are difficult; she just makes it look easy. Newborns won’t laugh at your jokes, they won’t pose the way you tell them too, and well – ask them to control their bowels? Forget about it. Kendra just simply has a way with them. I’ll never forget the little five year-old that played with Kendra in front of the camera for well over an hour with nary a complaint. But when she found out that Kendra couldn’t come sleep over after the session? Melt down city.
Kendra grew up in northern Indiana ( which ironically seemed to imbue a southern hospitality in her ). With a contractor father she certainly had her tomboy moments, but she eventually gravitated towards the arts in high-school – she’s drawn, painted, and sculpted. During her junior year she started interning for a local photographer in Peru, IN ( Harmon Photography ) and decided to attend the same east-coast school that her mentor had – the Hallmark Institute of Photography in MA.
While in MA she met a particularly stubborn gentlemen ( who just happens to co-own their studio ) and decided to spend the rest of her life with him. While her husband Dan generally handles the commercial side of the business, Kendra can be found rolling around the studio floor photographing kids most days of the week.
